Items You Can’t Buy with Food Stamps/EBT/SNAP?

According to the USDA, you are not allowed to purchase the following items with your SNAP benefits:

  • Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, or tobacco
  • Vitamins or medicines
  • Hot foods
  • Any nonfood items including household supplies, soaps, paper products, cosmetics, grooming items, and pet food such as dog food, cat food, etc.
  • Yeast tablets
  • Food that will be eaten in the store
  • Fertilizer and insecticides.

It’s an offense to buy any prepared or hot foods that are to be eaten on-premises, like at restaurants, fast food places, and in-store cafes. Except you have the Restaurant Meals Program benefits, which provides prepared food for the elderly, disabled, and homeless through participating fast food restaurants.
